Six New Tours

At the launch we will be releasing six new tours about the natural and human history of Santa Cruz County. That will bring the total number of tours in our free app “Mobile Ranger Guides” to 16! The tours are made by local historians, non-profit organizations, and rangers from Mobile Ranger. It’s high quality content made by locals who know and love Santa Cruz County.

The first two tours feature local scenic highways: our South Skyline Boulevard tour, and the Highway 17 tour, described below.

South Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35)

This tour begins at the junction of Skyline Boulevard and Highway 84 (La Honda Road) and has eight stops along the way. Skyline Boulevard is more than just a transportation corridor and this tour indicates many spectacular views and unnoticed historical highlights. This tour is by Janet Schwind and the South Skyline Historical Society.

Highway 17 Tour

This driving tour will take you along the winding Highway 17 to uncover the many unique stories including submerged ghost towns, a one eyed cross dressing stage coach driver, and a very questionably “holy city” tucked away in the mountains. This tour is by rangers from Mobile Ranger.

About The Author

I really enjoy field trips. I love being in a cool place and having someone tell me about it. The problem is, you can’t always find a professor or park ranger-type to tell you all they know about the local rocks, plants, and history. So I decided to combine my love of things natural with mobile technology.
