I heard from a Monterey County dairy man that Santa Cruz counties roles and regulations for producing and selling fresh milk are prohibitive .

Thanks Patt Kutscher for telling us your personal family history with respect to dairy- historians have to make choices about what they cover and sorry the Silva family did not make it in – it is great that you filled in some of the missing info.

Glad you like the article. The date comes from the source of the photo, The Santa Cruz Public Library, at http://www2.santacruzpl.org/gallery2/v/lochistphotos/0167.jpg.html. Please let us know what date you think it is and why. Thanks!

He opened a processing plant in Santa Cruz and sold his own milk and dairy products at 5 Santa Cruz Dairy Farms drive through stores. Please look it up. Sad you didn’t search for milk drive throughs, Aptos Mission Street, Felton and the processing plant by Santa Cruz Medical Center. When the dairy cows moved to Gonzalas CA. there were over 800 milking cows and 100+ heifers and calves that moved after the morning milking and at their new ranch by afternoon milking time. Dad’s name was Johnnie R Silva. Many people worked at the plant and delivered milk products each morning to the stores and at home delivery.
